As a result of this project, aquaculture ponds in Central Java, Indonesia, have obtained ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certification. The ASC certification is an international standard awarded to seafood produced through responsible aquaculture practices that consider environmental and social impacts.

On October 21, 2024, JCCU launched the first Co-op Black Tiger Shrimp harvested from the certified ponds as an ASC-labeled product. This product consists of bulk shrimp, processed and frozen locally, which JCCU imports and packages for sale at a facility that holds ASC's Chain of Custody (CoC) certification. CoC certification demonstrates that certified seafood is properly managed throughout the entire supply chain, from processing to distribution, until it reaches consumers.

In line with the "JCCU Basic Policy for Responsible Procurement", which is the development policy for CO·OP Brand Products, JCCU has been promoting shrimp aquaculture improvement projects in Indonesia, the primary source of Black Tiger shrimp, since 2018. This project supports the conversion of Black Tiger Shrimp farming practices, which is a popular product among co-op members, to sustainable methods that meet ASC certification standards, taking into account environmental and social factors. As a result of the project, the Misaya Mitra Company's aquaculture pond in Central Java obtained ASC aquaculture certification on March 29, 2024.

JCCU staff were present during the initial production of raw materials in Indonesia, overseeing the entire process from shrimp harvesting to processing. During the first production, they inspected the shrimp production methods and the harvesting and processing procedures. The post-hatch shrimp released into the aquaculture pond in March 2024 were raised without artificial feed or antibiotics and were harvested in August 2024. The harvested shrimp were transported from the aquaculture pond to the factory while maintaining freshness, processed and frozen (single freeze at the production site), allowing for a delightful texture and flavor of the shrimp.

Through this project, the shrimp processing company has obtained ASC certification, enabling them to supply ASC-labeled Black Tiger shrimp to co-op members. This is a significant initiative for JCCU in promoting "sustainable production and consumption." JCCU will continue to advance the expansion of sustainable Black Tiger Shrimp farming through the activities of this project.

JCCU will continue its efforts to develop and promote products that consider environmental and social factors.
